Spyware: what is it
and how to get rid of it?
Currently, there are many dangers
threatening our PCs, especially when we
surf
online, because there are several menaces
that are hidden, waiting for a victim; one
of them is the well known
Spyware, the
mission of this little software is to gather
its victim�s personal information and send
it to a receptor. It is as if someone
unknown broke into your house and wrote down
all the activities you perform in your daily
life. |

These programs are similar to
viruses, but their difference lies in the
fact that they lack from a hazardous code
for our PC and that is why it is so hard to
eliminate them, because regular
antivirus
software only search for spiteful codes and
are unable of detecting them, while they
keep gathering information from our daily
routines without us been aware of it.
There are various intrusion methods into our
PCs, one of them is through web sites with
malicious codes (actives, java scripts or
cookies), another method of getting in is
attaching Spyware into a virus called
Trojan; but one of the most common and
popular infection methods is to be hidden
inside a
freeware, and after accepting the
terms of use without reading them, we agree
and let them spy on us. |

The information gathered by
the virus includes mainly our
e-mail and
password, our IP and DNS numbers, our phone
numbers, our country, the web sites we
mostly enter to, which software we have
installed in our PCs, what we buy through
the
Internet, our credit card numbers, the
number of our bank accounts, etc. |

The symptoms of infection are
very notorious and affect our system
significantly, among the most visible ones
are:
-Homepages are changed or there are some
failures in our browser.
-Pop-Ups appear without been required, even
when we are offline and not having the
browser opened, most of them having
pornographic contents. |

-Search bars are installed in the upper part of
the browser, such as: toolbar888, Hotbar, Mysearchweb security
toolbar, etc; all of those which are impossible to delete.
-Icons appear besides the clock with infection signs.
-and one of the greater and more notorious, is that
surfing in
the Internet is everytime harder and slower.
However there are many software that fight against
Spyware,

installed because they are not limited to eliminate the Spyware
they find, but they are also in charge of preventing new
infections, without letting aside that there is needed a minimum
of precaution when accessing web sites and that it is important
to keep our anti-Spyware updated.
