The new system works specially between the 470 to 890 MHz band (between
channels 14 to 83) and in UHF frequencies. The new system and
the old one will have to coexist up to 2009, when NTSC emissions
must be interrupted, in both, the 54 to 216 MHz (between
channels 2 and 13) and in UHF and VHF frequencies.
This date has been postponed for 4 months due to the high cost
of the converter boxes, but many television companies have
started distributing the decoders so the users can watch
digital
television, although not all the
broadcasters have migrated to
the digital change, they are emitting both signals.

The great benefit of changing the format of
digital television is that some parts of the transmission
specter will be released; this specter is really valuable for
public security communications (such as police, firemen and
rescue squads transmissions.
a major inconvenient is that everyone who wants
to enjoy digital television would have to purchase the digital
decoder, which is an extra spend for the already critic economic
condition in which the american homes are found, because this
equipment will convert the analog format into the digital one

Finally, I would like to make an observation regarding the
postponement that the president Obama proposed before the
american Congress, I think it was very clever because even
though everything has been planned out, there are still some
fails and setbacks because of the lack of federal subsidies;
that is why it is better that they keep on with a slow process,
so everyone can be benefitted from this new service and no one
is left out of enjoying television�s new era.
